Chris Hyland – Co-opted Governor

‘I am a co-opted Governor and am chair of the Finance and Staffing Committee. I am also the co-vice chair of a secondary school in Enfield, Chace Community School. I have been a Governor for a little over 3 years, a time in which I have seen Garfield into the nicest school building in the Borough. I am very proud of the excellent teaching and leadership in this school and am very happy to serve on the Governing Board.’


Rina Munir – Community Governor

I have been living in New Southgate area over forty years. My children and grandchildren have been to Garfield school. My grandson is a pupil of the Garfield school at the moment. My children and grandchildren always looked forward to going to school. I became a community governor in 2014.

Children achieve best when they are nurtured in a happy and safe environment.   I know that the staff in Garfield School achieve this.

I work in education so have a good knowledge about families & children’s educational needs in my area. I feel privileged to be able to serve my community this way.


Kate Powney – Vice Chair

I have been a Parent Governor since my eldest child joined the school in 2012 and sit on the Premises committee and the Teaching & Learning committee (which I previously chaired). In my professional life I work as a contract Project Manager. I specialise in Business Change projects, improving existing business processes and implementing new ones. 

Andy Isaacs – Parent Governor

I am a parent governor, elected in 2015, with two children at Garfield in Reception and Year 3. I chair the Teaching and Learning committee and act as the link governor for Years 5 and 6.

My job is in marketing and advertising, as Head of Analytics for a media agency. I lead a team of analysts that use statistical modelling to assess the effectiveness of investment by businesses when advertising.

I have a degree in economics from the University of Cambridge.


Daxa Panchal – Co-opted Governor

I am co –opted Governor at Garfield. I joined Garfield in 2001 as an Admin Officer, then Office Manager, and now in my current role as School Business Manager. Prior to joining Garfield my previous roles were in Computer programming and then Finance. I have been married for almost 30 years with 2 children. I have been part of the Premises and Finance & Staffing since I became a Governor, and have played an active role to help shape our new school.


Andrew Powney– Co-opted Governor

I am a co-opted governor and sit on the finance and staffing committee where I offer my commercial expertise. I am currently an IT consultant working in central government and was previously a director of a Leisure Trust.

I have personal experience of primary education as a dad to two young children. I am keen to support Garfield in continuing its ongoing good work since its move into the new school.


Nathalie Ames – Staff Governor

I am the staff governor at Garfield. I am the Early years Achievement leader and I teach in the Nursery, Year 1 and Year 2.

I trained at the Institute of Education and have my Early Years Professional Status which I completed at Middlesex University in 2011.

My BA degree was in Fine Art and I still enjoy painting.

I have two grown up children and 2 cats, one of whom is 18 years old!

I love classic cars and am the proud owner of a 1967 Wolsely Hornet.


Elections for Parent-Governors are held when a vacancy occurs. All parents of children at Garfield may stand for election and all may vote for Parent-Governors when elections are held.

Minutes of all Governors’ meetings are available at school.
