I have been a school Governor for over twenty years and have been Chair of Governors for Garfield Primary since 2014.  I am a local Leader of governance for Enfield schools and I am currently also Chair of Governors for Enfield County School, Trustee for Enfield Learning Trust and Vice Chair of Governors for Highlands School.  Most of my career in senior management has been in Risk and Compliance working for PwC.  After twenty years’ service, I have now retired allowing me more time to support schools in Enfield. 


Chris Hyland – Co-opted Governor – Vice Chair

‘I am a co-opted Governor and am chair of the Finance and Staffing Committee. I am also the co-vice chair of a secondary school in Enfield, Chace Community School. I have been a Governor for a little over 3 years, a time in which I have seen Garfield into the nicest school building in the Borough. I am very proud of the excellent teaching and leadership in this school and am very happy to service on the Governing Board.’


Rina Munir – Community Governor

I have been living in New Southgate area over forty years. My children and grandchildren have been to Garfield school. My grandson is a pupil of the Garfield school at the moment. My children and grandchildren always looked forward to going to school.  I became a community governor in 2014.

Children achieve best when they are nurtured in a happy and safe environment.   I know that the staff in Garfield School achieve this.

I work in education so have a good knowledge about families & children’s educational needs in my area. I feel privileged to be able to serve my community this way.


Andy Isaacs – Co-opted Governor

I am a parent governor, elected in 2015, with two children at Garfield. I chair the Teaching and Learning committee and act as the link governor for Years 5 and 6.

My job is in marketing and advertising, as Head of Analytics for a media agency. I lead a team of analysts that use statistical modelling to assess the effectiveness of investment by businesses when advertising.

I have a degree in economics from the University of Cambridge.


Daxa Panchal – Co-opted Governor

I am co –opted Governor at Garfield. I joined Garfield in 2001 as an Admin Officer, then Office Manager, and now in my current role as School Business Manager. Prior to joining Garfield my previous roles were in Computer programming and then Finance. I have been married for almost 30 years with 2 children. I have been part of the Premises and Finance & Staffing since I became a Governor, and have played an active role to help shape our new school.


Andrew Powney– Co-opted Governor

I am a co-opted governor and sit on the finance and staffing committee where I offer my commercial expertise. I am currently an IT consultant working in central government and was previously a director of a Leisure Trust.

I have personal experience of primary education as a dad to two young children. I am keen to support Garfield in continuing its ongoing good work since its move into the new school.


Amy Mercer – Parent Governor

I am a new parent Governor, elected in 2019, with my daughter in year two at Garfield.

In my professional life I am the Director of Talent, where I oversee Learning and Development, Talent Acquisition, Talent Management and Communications for a 3 global visual effects companies. I have a passion for building communities through companies and breaking down barriers to improve accessibility to enable people to reach their potential.


Menekse (Minnie) Mutlu – Parent Governor

I am a newly elected parent governor, part of the Finance and Resources Committee. It’s a privilege to be a part of our school governing team.

I have extensive knowledge of our national health service, I’ve worked my way up from being a translator to a supervisory role in a general practice. As a mum to three sons who attend Garfield Primary School, I am proud to be part of our school community and use my professional skills to help and support our school. 


Alfred Donker – LA Governor

I have extensive experience in commissioning, procurement and contract management of local government services. A resident of Enfield, I currently lead the children’s commissioning team in Royal Borough of Greenwich, working in partnership with private, voluntary and independent sector organisations to provide high quality services and improve outcomes for children and young people.


Jenny Godfrey – Staff Governor

My name is Jenny Godfrey and I have been a staff governor since 2019. I started working at Garfield in 2010 and am a full-time year 2 teacher. I enjoy working at Garfield and I think all of our teachers work incredibly hard. As teacher, I am hoping to make contributions to the Teaching and Learning Committee and I also hope to help build Garfield’s reputation in the community. We have an incredible staff team and school building and it would be great to help Garfield become a school that fills all its spaces by finding new ways to showcase ourselves!


Elections for Parent-Governors are held when a vacancy occurs. All parents of children at Garfield may stand for election and all may vote for Parent-Governors when elections are held.
