           Music at Garfield

“Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart.”

Pablo Casals

Music plays a central role here at Garfield Primary and it is very much at the heart of our community.

We normally enjoy two schools choirs, recorder clubs, ukulele and steel pan clubs.

Children and staff are encouraged to perform and share musical experiences throughout the school year.

We believe that music is a vital part of our school curriculum and we continue developing and updating our music provision on an ongoing basis.

Our well-equipped music room is certainly a vibrant place to be!

Every class receives weekly music lessons by a specialist music teacher. Units of work cover the key units of the national curriculum.

Both Key stage 1 and Key stage 2 are now once again receiving year group singing assemblies.

Weekly online lessons were provided to all year groups during lockdown.

This year our whole class recorder lessons and all singing lessons have been disrupted by Covid -19.

Garfield has two school choirs who meet every week to prepare for various performances, in school and in the wider community.

Our past performances have included being part of the London Borough of Enfield massed choir concert at The Royal Festival Hall in March 2020 and at The O2 Arena in London as part of the Young Voices Choir in 2016 and 2018.

Both choirs are now up and running again! (Following strict government Covid-19 guidelines)

During the Covid – 19 pandemic, performances and festivals have been organised as online events and every child is encouraged to take part.

Year 6 enjoyed participating in an online singing competition in the autumn term.

Music clubs

Clubs have started again during summer term 2.

Tuesday: Year 1 music club/choir 3.15 – 4.00pm

Ukulele and steel pan clubs will be back soon – watch this space!
