“I was inspired to sing, thanks to the teachers and all of my friends”

Garfield pupil – Ofsted report 2019

Music plays a central role here at Garfield Primary and it is very much at the heart of our community.

Year 5 Carol singing at Arnos Grove underground station December 22

Garfield has two school choirs who meet every week to prepare for various performances, in and out of school.

The Year 2/3 choir are currently rehearsing songs for the Enfield Infant singing festival to be held in March.

 Young Voices Choir

The upper KS2 choir had an amazing experience on 24/01/23 Tuesday night when they performed as part of the Young Voices Choir at the London O2 Arena. The choir was made up of over 9000 children all singing in unison and in up to four parts; the sound they all made collectively was mesmerising. The choir were rapping, dancing, singing, cheering and most definitely smiling all day and night. The highlight of the night was singing ‘Proud’ alongside Heather Small from M People.

Every class receives weekly music lessons given by a specialist music teacher.

Both Key stage 1 and Key stage 2 receive year group singing assemblies.

Children and staff are encouraged to perform and share musical experiences throughout the school year.

We believe that music is a vital part of our school curriculum, and we continue developing and updating our music provision on an ongoing basis.

Children are taught to listen and appraise, sing, compose and to become confident performers.

Instrumental lessons

Enfield music service provide instrumental lessons in school and can offer lessons in Violin, guitar, sax, flute etc. There is a fee for the tuition and instrument hire; further details can be obtained from the EMS website or Ms Siefert.
