Music at Garfield
We believe that music is a vital part of our school curriculum and we continue developing our music provision on an ongoing basis.
Our well-equipped music room is certainly a vibrant place be!
Every class receives weekly music lessons by a specialist music teacher. Units of work cover the national curriculum and support all class topic work. Year 3 learn the descant recorder for a whole year and have the opportunity to continue learning in our year 4/5 recorder lunchtime recorder clubs.
Both Key stage 1 and Key stage 2 receive weekly singing assemblies.
Garfield has two school choirs who meet every week to prepare for various performances, in school and in the wider community.
Our past performances have included being part of the London Borough of Enfield massed choir concert at The Royal Festival Hall in March 2020 and at The O2 Arena in London as part of the Young Voices Choir in 2016 and 2018.
Our KS 1 ‘Little Voices’ choir will take part in the annual borough singing partnership festival in the spring term.
During the Covid – 19 pandemic, performances and festivals have been organised as online events and every child is encouraged to take part.
Year 6 enjoyed an online singing competition in the autumn term.
