School meals are cooked on the premises and menus are carefully planned to ensure children receive a healthy, balanced meal. There is always a choice of main dishes. The meal costs £2.50 a day (£12.50 per week). Dinner money is paid by the parent pay system (www.parentpay.com).

Some parents may be entitled to claim free meals for their children. If you think you may be entitled to claim, please ask at the school office for an application form.  Although forms are available from school, the Headteacher is not empowered to grant free meals. All forms have to be sent to the Civic Centre where decisions are made. (We can send forms to the Civic Centre for you)

Free School Meals Form 2017

If you wish, your child may bring a packed lunch. Garfield School is committed to encouraging parents to provide healthier lunchboxes for children.

This means that we will be encouraging children to have healthy options from the following:
Sandwich/bread, Pasta/rice dish, Salad, Fruit, Cooked vegetable dish, Yoghurt & Water which is also available in the dining hall if children want.

We will also be actively discouraging some packed lunch foods which include the following: Crisps, Sweets & Confectionary, Chocolate Bars, Sweet desserts,  ‘Squash’ or Added-Sugar and/or Sweetened Drink (Fizzy Drinks are not allowed in school).

Remember, children’s concentration and learning improve if they eat healthier food.

To change from school lunch to packed lunch or vice versa, one week’s written notice is required.
