Enfield Parent Information May 2023

School meals are cooked on the premises and menus are carefully planned to ensure children receive a healthy, balanced meal. There is always a choice of main dishes. During the academic year 2023/2024, all state funded schools in London will receive free school meals for all children for the full academic year. This includes Garfield Primary.

Mayor of London letter (UFSM) – London Borough of Enfield

Although all children receive their free school meals automatically this academic year, it is still important  to complete a FSM form in case your child is eligible for extra funding for the school from the Government. If you think you may be entitled to claim, you can collect the form from the school office or downloaded it from our website. Although forms are available from school, the Headteacher is not empowered to grant free meals. All forms have to be posted or emailed to the Enfield Civic Centre where decisions are made. (We can send forms to the Enfield Civic Centre on your behalf.)

If you wish, your child may bring a packed lunch. Garfield Primary is committed to encouraging parents to provide nutritious lunches for children.

This means that we are encouraging children to have healthy options from the following:
sandwich/bread, pasta/rice dish, salad, fruit, cooked vegetable dish, yogurt & water which is also available in the dining hall if children want.

We will also be actively discouraging some packed lunch foods which include the following: crisps, sweets & confectionery, chocolate bars, sweet desserts, ‘squash’ or added-sugar and/or sweetened drink (fizzy drinks are not allowed in school).

Remember, children’s concentration and learning improve if they eat healthier food.

Children can alternate freely between school dinners and packed lunches.
